SIMPLY CATHOLIC

Understanding the Anglican Way - Session 2 - Henry VIII was not the first Anglican!

People join the Episcopal Church for lots of reasons – some for the beauty of its liturgy, some for the wideness of its welcome, some for the generosity of its perspectives. Because of the myriad attractions of Episcopal (or Anglican) Christianity, it is all too easy for individuals to become members of a church without really understanding what the church is all about. What is more, some may even fall victim to critical claims that Episcopalianism is simply a loose aggregation of religious “free agents” instead of a stream of historic Christianity with an internal theological coherence.

The Very Rev’d C. Patrick Perkins of the Fond du Lac Cathedral will lead us in a weekend retreat examining the broad contours of Episcopal history, theology, and practice. Describing the Anglican way in terms of being “simply catholic,” Dean Patrick hopes to convince seekers – new and old – that, far from being “Christianity Lite,” the Episcopal Church provides a weighty approach to following Jesus that defies ordinary ideas of traditional and contemporary, catholic and protestant, liberal and conservative.
